Join us for dinner

The allotment society’s annual dinner will be held in the Royal Marines Social Club, The Strand, on Thursday, February 27 at 7pm.

The menu is:


Prawn cocktail

Tomato soup

Mushroom soup

Duck and orange pâté


Roast dinner with choice of meats

Fish in sauce

Vegetarian option


Mixed berry cheesecake

Apple crumble with custard or cream

Fruit salad

To finish 

Coffee and mints.

The cost is £20 per person, payable by February 20.

Last of the summer barbecues



Summer may be officially over but there’s still time for another barbecue.

This one will take place on the grassy area by the large container on Sunday, September 15 from 1pm.

All plot holders are welcome with their families and friends.

If you want to donate a raffle prize please bring it along on the day or give it to a committee member beforehand. All profits go into the association’s funds.

Kate and Ken Withington were the big winners in this year’s allotment competitions, taking first place in four categories and second place in a further two.

The winners were announced at today’s barbecue.which was attended by a good number of plotholders, their friends and families.

It’s that time of year again!

Let’s hope the sun is shining on Sunday, July 21 when we hold our annual barbecue and competitions.

All plot holders and their families and friends will be welcome.

There will also be a raffle during the afternoon. If you want to donate a prize please bring it along on the day.

As usual, the competition categories are: best full plot; best half plot; largest root of potato; longest stick of rhubarb; Sunday lunch (two each of five different vegetables on a plate including potato); largest strawberry; bunch of flowers; funniest/largest vegetable.

The entry fee is £2.

The entry form can be found here. Please give your completed form and entry fee to any committee member. Some printed forms will be available by the shed in the main car park for members who do not have their own printer.

Judging of the best plots and half plots will take place on the evening of Wednesday, July 10. Other categories will be judged on the day of the barbecue.
