Congratulations to Terry Johnson’s son-in-law, Martin Pearce, who has completed both the Brighton and London Marathons in the last couple of weeks.
Martin wants to thank everyone at the allotment association annual dinner who sponsored him, helping him to reach a magnificent total of £2,800 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Tony Fursland, the association’s chairman, is holding a birthday party at the allotments on Sunday, May 7 and all plotholders and their families are invited.
There will be a free barbecue and tea and coffee but you will have to bring your own wine, beer, etc.
The barbecue can’t be held in its normal place by the large container because the new grass is not well-established enough yet so it will be set up nearby instead.
Tony said: “As it’s an outside party if very bad weather it will not take place. Fingers crossed.
“Last year everyone enjoyed themselves, so let’s hope for a repeat. Hope to see you all.”
The party will start at noon.
Denis, who is the judge at our annual allotment competition, is holding a plant sale in aid of the Air Ambulance.
There will a wide range of flower and vegetable plants on sale at the event at The Lodge, Beacon Lane, Woodnesborough, on Saturday, April 29 from 10am to noon.
A few committee members and other plotholders took up their watering cans at the weekend to water the barbecue area by the large container where grass seed was sown recently.
The grass is growing well but needed a helping hand in this dry spell. The water used was all rainwater collected from the water harvester in the main car park.
The working party also strimmed public areas on the site and carried out other maintenance work.
This large metal tank is available free of charge. If you are interested please talk to Cyril on plot 3.

There will be not one but two working parties this weekend to carry out general maintenance work at the site. If you can help in any way please meet at the main car park at 10am on Saturday or Sunday.
If you are still on the lookout for seed potatoes here are some going free. They are maincrop varieties – Amour and Blue Belle.
They are by the shed on plot 31 (Allotment plot map). Help yourself if you want them but please return the tray.
If you have any surplus seeds/seedlings/plants or other allotment items which you would like to offer to other plotholders please send details to firstname.lastname@example.org so they can be advertised on this website.
The first plot inspections of 2017 will take place in the first week of April.
Thursday June 15 will be the day to go to see The Buddy Holly Story at The Marlowe Theatre, Canterbury.
Plotholder Janine Wells is organising tickets for the show that night at a reduced price of £25.07 per person.
