We have a thriving allotment community here at the Telegraph Road allotments in Deal, Kent.
The site, which is run by Deal and Walmer Allotment Holders’ Association, has more than 100 plots – some of them full plots and others half plots.
Our committee has worked hard to upgrade the site and – thanks to a number of grants – we now have ladies’ and gents’ compost toilets, ample car parking space and secure fencing around the site.
We hold a barbecue and competition every summer as well as other social events throughout the year including visits by school groups, Brownies, Cubs and other organisations. Our plot holders are all ages and include many families with young children.
Talk It Out, the Deal-based support group for people with mental health issues, has a plot at the site which is worked by about 15 of the group’s members.
The current cost of rental is £30 per year for a full plot and £15 for a half plot.
